Q:How do I take a screenshot of my desktop?
A:You can take screenshots of your whole desktop three different ways. You can click Full-screen icon on the application, press the Prnt Scrn keyboard button, or click the Quick Capture button right from your browser.
Q:I tried clicking the Prnt Scrn button take a screenshot, but it didn't work.
A:DownShotFree may need to be launched again in order to take a screenshot with the Prnt Scrn button.
Q:What keyboard shortcuts are available?

A:DownShotFree supports the following:

  1. Close: Alt + F4
  2. Save: Ctrl + S
  3. To Clipboard: Ctrl + C
  4. Full Screenshot: Ctrl + F
  5. Rectangle Screenshot: Ctrl + R
  6. Window Screenshot: Ctrl + W
  7. Paint: Ctrl + E
  8. Delete Preview: Delete
  9. Full Screenshot and auto copy to clipboard: Prnt Scrn
  10. Exit out of rectangle screenshot or window screenshot: Esc
  11. Kill Process: Ctrl Q
  12. Open Help Screen: F1
  13. Open About Screen: Ctrl F1
  14. Exit Preview Tip Animation: Esc
Q:When I have DownShotFree open, sometimes the keyboard shortcuts work and sometimes they don't work. Why do the keyboard shortcuts not work all of the time?
A:While the DownShotFree application may be displayed, it may not be in focus. Keyboard shortcuts will only work when the application in focus. When the app is not in focus the border will become gray. Simply click anywhere within the application to gain focus back on the app and enable shortcuts.
Q:Can I capture videos with DownShotFree?
A:No. DownShotFree does not currently support this feature.
Q:Does DownShotFree work on Linux or OS X?
A:No. DownShotFree currently doesn't support these operating systems.
Q: When I close DownShotFree, why does the program appear to be still running?

A:DownShotFree is built to be super light weight and consume the minimum resources possible. We need to keep the program running for two reasons:

  • In order to be able to use the Prnt Scrn key.
  • In order to make the app launch super responsive for quick screenshots.
Q:The DownShotFree application allows me to edit my screenshot in Paint. Can I edit my photo in a different program, desktop or online?
A:Yes, you can. You can save the snapshot and then open it in your preferred editing program.
Q:I edited my screenshot in Paint. How can I get the edited screenshot to appear in the application?
A:Once you edit your screenshot in Paint, click save. Doing so will update DownShotFree's preview. From there you can press the Copy To Clipboard button to be able to paste your edited screenshot.
Q:How do I exit out of the Selection or Window snapshot?
A:Click the Esc key to exit out of either the Selection or Window snapshot.
Q:How do I email or share my screenshot?
A:DownShotFree gives you the option to copy your screenshot to your computer's clipboard or save it to your computer. Once you save it, you can either e-mail the snapshot as an attachment or upload it to your website, blog, and/or social media sites.
